Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about ordering, shipping, and what to expect from Northern Foundry.
What does "made-to-order" mean?
Every order is printed fresh in our Calgary workshop after you place it. Nothing sits on a shelf — your terrain, miniatures, or accessories are printed specifically for you. This means fresher quality, less waste, and the ability to fulfill items that aren't held in stock.
How long does production take?
Production typically takes 2–10 business days depending on the size and complexity of your order:
- Small items (tokens, single miniatures, small accessories): 2–4 days
- Medium orders (small terrain sets, multiple miniatures): 4–7 days
- Large orders (full terrain sets, bulk orders): 7–10 days
You'll receive a shipping notification with tracking the moment your order leaves the workshop.
Do you ship to the United States? What about tariffs?
Yes. We ship to both Canada and the United States with free shipping. Because we ship from Canada under the CUSMA trade agreement, our products qualify for tariff-free entry into the US — you pay zero duties or tariffs at the border.
What's the difference between 28mm, 32mm, and 40mm scale?
Scale refers to the height of a typical human miniature, measured from foot to eye:
- 28mm: Standard for D&D, Pathfinder, classic Warhammer Fantasy, most RPGs
- 32mm: Common for Warhammer 40K, Marvel Crisis Protocol, modern heroic scale
- 40mm: Larger heroic scale used in some skirmish games and display pieces
If you're unsure what scale you need, message us through the contact page with your game system and we'll point you the right way.
Do you do custom 3D prints?
Yes. If you have an STL file or a specific piece you need (replacement parts, bespoke terrain, scaled-up minis), submit a request through our Custom Prints page. We'll quote you within 24 hours and typically deliver in 3–5 days.
What material do you print with?
We print primarily with premium grey PLA on calibrated FDM printers. PLA holds detail well, primes and paints beautifully, and ships safely without warping. For specialty requests (resin detail prints, durable PETG, etc.) ask us through Custom Prints.
Are your designs licensed?
Yes. We are a licensed partner of Fat Dragon Games and several other premium tabletop terrain designers. Where applicable, all designs we sell are produced under proper commercial license from the original creators. Riftbound and Gundam tokens are unofficial fan-made accessories not affiliated with the trademark holders.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Reach out as soon as possible through the contact page. If your order hasn't started printing, changes and cancellations are free. Once printing has begun, custom prints can't be cancelled, but we'll do everything reasonable to accommodate changes.
What if something arrives damaged or wrong?
We stand behind every piece we ship. If anything arrives damaged, defective, or different from what you ordered, contact us within 14 days with a photo and we'll either replace it or refund you — no questions, no hassle.
